Ryo Terakado’s course offers to introduce and work on the historical violin technique in the Baroque era, using Francesco Geminiani’s ‘The Art of Playing on the Violin’, and guids how to work on each exercises and compositions. Work on various ornamentation styles with Italian, French and mixed styles. Exploring polyphony playing on the violin with Corelli, Bach etc. Repertoire: Free choice of compositions from 17th, 18th and early 19th century. Violin, Viola, Violoncello da Spalla are welcomed. No audition.


  • Bach: Solo sonatas and partitas, Obbligato sonatas, Continuo sonatas.
  • French baroque sonatas like; Senallié, De la Guerre, Francoeur, Leclair and Couperin
  • Corelli sonatas from Op.5
  • German/Austrian 17th century sonatas: Schmelzer, Biber, Walther
  • Mozart sonatas or concertos.

Il docente

Born 1961 in Santa-Curz, Bolivia.
Started to play violin at the age of 4. He won the 2 nd prize in all Japan Youth Musical Competition when he was 14 years old. He studied violin, chamber music and conducting at the Toho Gakuen School of Music.
In 1983, he won the third prize in all Japan Music Competition.
At the time when graduating Toho Gakuen, he was invited as a concertmaster of The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, where he served for 2 years.
His interest in baroque music already started before: When he was 19, he started to play baroque violin by himself. In 1985, he came to the Netherlands to study the baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague under guidance of Sigiswald Kuijken. In 1989 He received a soloist diploma.
Since 1987, He played with many Baroque orchestras in Europe and Japan as a concertmaster. La Petite Bande , Les Arts Florissants, La Chapelle Royale, Collegium Vocale Gent, Tokyo Bach Mozart Orchestra etc.
Presently he is the concertmaster of Bach Collegium Japan.
He plays regularly concertos by Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart etc. with above-mentioned orchestras. Besides that he is also invited frequently to Italy, Poland, France and Australia as a soloist.
Since 1994, he is one of the main artists in “Hokutopia International Music Festival” in Tokyo, where he debuted as a conductor.
He conducts Operas by Monteverdi, Purcell, Rameau, Gluck, Haydn and Mozart.
Currently he teaches at the Hague Royal Conservatory (Holland), The Royal Conservatory in Brussels and Toho Gakuen school of music (Japan) .
He is regularly teaching in Yonsei University in Seoul and making concert activities in Korea.
