Masterclass on Monteverdi

Main Course: July 20>29 9.00am-1.00pm

Level: Advanced

Program:

Masterclass on Monteverdi’s Operas (for singers and instrumentalists)

Rinaldo Alessandrini

The course will aim to the performance of a selection of scenes from the Monteverdi’s trilogy (Orfeo, Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria, L’incoronazione di Poppea). The work done during the course will be concluded in the concert Differenti tipi d’amore.

This event is included as part of the festival’s concerts (Urbino Musica Antica) and will take place on July 29th in Palazzo Ducale, Salone del Trono

The course is intended as a real opera workshop and will equally involve both singers and instrumentalists, particularly continuo players. The roles will be selected by M° Alessandrini by evaluating the audio/video material received (see the Participant rules)

In the audio/video files the applicant should perform the role and the music for which he/she intends to participate. For the roles not assigned, an audition will be held in Urbino, July 20th morning.

The singers selected for the performance should arrive at the course having already learned by heart their part; special care should be observed regarding rhythmic accuracy and rigorous tempo keeping. Students will have to study exclusively on the scores edited by M° Alessandrini, which will be sent by email to all aspirants.

The course will be held in Italian and English. Foreign students should purchase a literal translation of their parts.
